Journalist
of the year:
awards for responsible reporting about epilepsy
2007 competition
The closing date for
the 2007 competition is now 1st June 2008.
Epilepsy is a commonly
misunderstood condition, carrying stigma and public prejudice. Responsible
and accurate reporting about the condition can help to inform and educate,
breaking down barriers and raising awareness.
Thanks to funding
from independent actuaries and consultants Barnett Waddingham LLP, NSE
is granting journalist of the year awards in four categories:
- national newspapers
- regional newspapers
- consumer magazines
- specialist publications
such as healthcare and educational publications.
In each category the
winner will receive a £500 award and will be invited to a presentation
lunch.
Competition rules:
- Entries must have been published between 1st January 2007 and 31st May 2008 .
- Any aspect of
epilepsy can be covered. More than one article may be submitted.
- Photocopies are
acceptable. Each entry must include the name of the publication it appeared
in and the date it was published. Entries will not be returned.
- Entries must reach
NSE press office by 5pm on 1st June 2008. The address for entries
is Press Office, National Society for Epilepsy, Chesham Lane, Chalfont
St Peter, Bucks SL9 0RJ. Faxed entries are not acceptable.
- Each entry must
be accompanied by a separate A4 sheet listing the name, address and
contact telephone number of the journalist.
- Articles written
by NSE staff will not be eligible to enter.
- Articles published
in magazines and newsletters from epilepsy organisations are not eligible
for entry
- The judges' decision
is final.

awards
Lisa Buckingham of
Zest magazine won the national title in NSE’s 2005 journalist of the year
award. Laurie Coombs of the Burton Mail took the regional title. Both
winners received a cheque for £500. A highly commended award went to Alex
Galbinski of the Hendon Times.
